NOTES for Isa 19:1-25

Pagan Egypt, Israel’s enemy since the Exodus, brings the Lord’s wrath upon itself and is doomed to calamities. Yet, as with the other nations we read about earlier, God does not want Egypt to disappear; He simply wants to bring it to Himself. The picture painted in verse 25 is astonishing: the peaceful unity of Egypt, Assyria, and Israel, three irreconcilable rivals. But this will come to pass, says the prophet Isaiah, and it is precisely for this, for the joy of all people, that the Savior, Christ the Lord, is born, joining all who come to Him into a new humanity.
