NOTES for Jud 1:20-21
The difficult built phrase of the apostle Jude is amazingly rich in contents. The apostle calls us to keep ourselves in the love of God, and it means living in this love, like a fish in water. The words of the apostle mean at the same time a firm hope on the mercy of the Lord Jesus-Christ and conservation of the love to God into the heart. In such conservation of oneself into love, the apostle sees the beginning of everlasting life, which the fulfillment awaits us ahead. The eternal blessing is not thus simply a posthumous reward (this unbiblical idea of the "pastures of heaven" will penetrate into the spirits of the Christians later from the Hellenistic culture).
Eternal blessing, the plenitude of eternal life begin already here and now, when Christ's mercy is granted to us. To save oneself for such an eternity means first of all for the apostle to establish your life on faith and turn away from evil. Faith, according to the wonderful word of the apostle, by itself turns out to be the manifestation of the holy in the life of man, the manifestation of the Spirit. An unflinching determination is needed to build a life on faith - but the apostle underlines that, that is not sufficient. The prayer inspired by the Holy Spirit - here is the anchor, which by holding we can get through the way proposed by the apostle.
