NOTES for Isa 65:1-25
The ardent dream that the Lord would tear open the heavens and come down, expressed in the preceding chapter, cannot remain merely a dream. It is not only a request, not only a plea for God's intervention, His coming and judgment, but also a prophetic insight, a vision of that coming. The world has lived by its own laws for too long. Although God has influenced the world, guiding individual righteous people and sinners, as well as entire nations, onto the right path, His direct involvement is nevertheless necessary—not only through the Word spoken, but through the Word incarnate. The Lord Himself must come into this world in order to claim it forever as His own. This process began in full force two thousand years ago, but it is not yet complete. Therefore, like the prophet Isaiah, we await a new heaven and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
