NOTES for Deu 28:35-68

In this final part of the curses upon apostates, the Lord shows the people how all the joys of life—family, home, harvest, peaceful living—can be destroyed in an instant if people forget their God. The point is not that He is frightening them or forcing them to worship Him under compulsion. It is simply that all His gifts (and every good thing comes from above) exist only to lead a person onward—toward the One who gives them. If someone turns away from God and forgets Him, it means that all these blessings have failed to fulfil their purpose, have become meaningless, and are taken away.
