Proverbs, Chapter 10

1 The proverbs of Solomon.A wise son makes a father glad,
But a foolish son is a grief to his mother. 2 a Lit Treasures of wickednessIll-gotten gains do not profit,

But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully. 6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. 7 The memory of the righteous is blessed,
But the name of the wicked will rot. 8 The wise of heart will receive commands,

But with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand. 15 The rich man’s wealth is hisi Lit strong cityfortress,

The income of the wicked, punishment. 17 He is on the path of life who heeds instruction,
But he who ignores reproof goes astray. 18 He who conceals hatred has lying lips,
And he who spreads slander is a fool. 19 When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable,
But he who restrains his lips is wise. 20 The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver,
The heart of the wicked is worth little. 21 The lips of the righteous feed many,
But fools die for lack ofk Lit heartunderstanding. 22 It is the blessing of the LORD that makes rich,
And He adds no sorrow to it. 23 Doing wickedness is like sport to a fool,
And so is wisdom to a man of understanding. 24 What the wicked fears will come upon him,
But the desire of the righteous will be granted. 25 When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more,
But the righteous has an everlasting foundation. 26 Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes,
So is the lazy one to those who send him. 27 The fear of the LORD prolongsl Lit dayslife,
But the years of the wicked will be shortened. 28 The hope of the righteous is gladness,
But the expectation of the wicked perishes. 29 The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the upright,
But ruin to the workers of iniquity. 30 The righteous will never be shaken,
But the wicked will not dwell in the land. 31 The mouth of the righteous flows with wisdom,
But the perverted tongue will be cut out. 32 The lips of the righteous bring forth what is acceptable,
But the mouth of the wicked what is perverted.

Proverbs, Chapter 11

1 
A false balance is an abomination to the LORD,
But a just weight is His delight.
2 
When pride comes, then comes dishonor,
But with the humble is wisdom.
3 
The integrity of the upright will guide them,
But the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them.
4 
Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
But righteousness delivers from death.
5 
The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way,
But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.
6 
The righteousness of the upright will deliver them,
But the treacherous will be caught by their own greed.
7 
When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish,
And the hope of strong men perishes.
8 
The righteous is delivered from trouble,
But the wickeda Lit enterstakes his place.

With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor,
But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
10 
When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices,
And when the wicked perish, there is joyful shouting.

By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
But by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.
12

Where there is no guidance the people fall,

A gracious woman attains honor,
And ruthless men attain riches.

The wicked earns deceptive wages,
But he who sows righteousness gets a true reward.
19 
He who is steadfast in righteousness will attain to life,
And he who pursues evil will bring about his own death.

The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD,

There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more,
And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want.

And he who waters will himself be watered.

He who withholds grain, the people will curse him,
But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.

He who diligently seeks good seeks favor,
But he who seeks evil, evil will come to him.

But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.

He who troubles his own house will inherit wind,
And the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,

If the righteous will be rewarded in the earth,
How much more the wicked and the sinner!

Proverbs, Chapter 12

1

But he who hates reproof is stupid.

A good man will obtain favor from the LORD,

A man will not be established by wickedness,
But the root of the righteous will not be moved.

But the house of the righteous will stand.

A man will be praised according to his insight,

The wise woman builds her house,
But the foolish tears it down with her own hands.

He who walks in his uprightness fears the LORD,
But he who is devious in his ways despises Him.
3

But the lips of the wise will protect them.

Where no oxen are, the manger is clean,
But much revenue comes by the strength of the ox.

A trustworthy witness will not lie,

But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding.

Proverbs, Chapter 16

1 
The plans of the heart belong to man,
But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.
2 
All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight,

And your plans will be established.

He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Better is a little with righteousness

A divine decision is in the lips of the king;

A just balance and scales belong to the LORD;

For a throne is established on righteousness.

How much better it is to get wisdom than gold!
And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver.

And a slanderer separates intimate friends.

A man of violence entices his neighbor

He who compresses his lips brings evil to pass.

A gray head is a crown of glory;
It is found in the way of righteousness.

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.

The lot is cast into the lap,
But its every decision is from the LORD.

Proverbs, Chapter 17

1 
Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it
Than a house full ofa Lit sacrifices of strifefeasting with strife.

A servant who acts wisely will rule over a son who acts shamefully,
And will share in the inheritance among brothers.

The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,
But the LORD tests hearts.

An evildoer listens to wicked lips;

He who mocks the poor taunts his Maker;
He who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.

Grandchildren are the crown of old men,

Rather than a fool in his folly.

He who returns evil for good,
Evil will not depart from his house.

The beginning of strife is like letting out water,
So abandon the quarrel before it breaks out.

He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous,
Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.

Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom,

A friend loves at all times,
And a brother is born for adversity.

Wisdom is in the presence of the one who has understanding,
But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.

And bitterness to her who bore him.

It is also not good to fine the righteous,
Nor to strike the noble for their uprightness.

Proverbs, Chapter 18

1 
He who separates himself seeks his own desire,

A fool does not delight in understanding,

When a wicked man comes, contempt also comes,
And with dishonor comes scorn.

But humility goes before honor.

He who gives an answer before he hears,
It is folly and shame to him.

But as for a broken spirit who can bear it?

Proverbs, Chapter 21

The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD;
He turns it wherever He wishes.

Every man’s way is right in his own eyes,
But the LORD weighs the hearts.
3 
To do righteousness and justice
Is desired by the LORD more than sacrifice.
4 
Haughty eyes and a proud heart,
The lamp of the wicked, is sin.
5 
The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage,
But everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty.
6 
The acquisition of treasures by a lying tongue
Is a fleeting vapor, thea Lit seekerspursuit of death.

The violence of the wicked will drag them away,
Because they refuse to act with justice.

The way of a guilty man is crooked,
But as for the pure, his conduct is upright.

It is better to live in a corner of a roof

The soul of the wicked desires evil;
His neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.

And a bribe in the bosom, strong wrath.

The exercise of justice is joy for the righteous,
But is terror to the workers of iniquity.

A man who wanders from the way of understanding

A good name is to be more desired than great wealth,
Favor is better than silver and gold.
