3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented1 robe for him. |
28 So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels2 of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt. |
35 All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. "No," he said, "in mourning will I go down to the grave3 to my son." So his father wept for him. |
36 Meanwhile, the Midianites4 sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials, the captain of the guard. |
29 But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out, and she said, "So this is how you have broken out!" And he was named Perez.1 |
30 Then his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his wrist, came out and he was given the name Zerah.2 |
16 When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given a favorable interpretation, he said to Joseph, "I too had a dream: On my head were three baskets of bread.1 |

22 but he hanged3 the chief baker, just as Joseph had said to them in his interpretation. |
13 And things turned out exactly as he interpreted them to us: I was restored to my position, and the other man was hanged.1 " |
38 So Pharaoh asked them, "Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God2 ?" |
45 Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-Paneah and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On,5 to be his wife. And Joseph went throughout the land of Egypt. |
51 Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh6 and said, "It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father's household." |
52 The second son he named Ephraim7 and said, "It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering." |
34 But bring your youngest brother to me so I will know that you are not spies but honest men. Then I will give your brother back to you, and you can trade1 in the land.' " |
38 But Jacob said, "My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave2 in sorrow." |
14 And may God Almighty1 grant you mercy before the man so that he will let your other brother and Benjamin come back with you. As for me, if I am bereaved, I am bereaved." |
29 If you take this one from me too and harm comes to him, you will bring my gray head down to the grave1 in misery.' |
7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.1 |
22 To each of them he gave new clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels2 of silver and five sets of clothes. |
15 These were the sons Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan Aram,3 besides his daughter Dinah. These sons and daughters of his were thirty-three in all. |
16 The sons of Gad: Zephon,4 Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli. |

29 Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father8 and wept for a long time. |
7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed1 Pharaoh, |
10 Then Jacob blessed2 Pharaoh and went out from his presence. |
21 and Joseph reduced the people to servitude,3 from one end of Egypt to the other. |
31 "Swear to me," he said. Then Joseph swore to him, and Israel worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.4 |
3 Jacob said to Joseph, "God Almighty1 appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and there he blessed me |
7 As I was returning from Paddan,2 to my sorrow Rachel died in the land of Canaan while we were still on the way, a little distance from Ephrath. So I buried her there beside the road to Ephrath" (that is, Bethlehem). |
22 And to you, as one who is over your brothers, I give the ridge of land6 I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow." |

12 His eyes will be darker than wine, his teeth whiter than milk.4 |
16 "Dan7 will provide justice for his people as one of the tribes of Israel. |
19 "Gad8 will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at their heels. |
21 "Naphtali is a doe set free that bears beautiful fawns.9 |
22 "Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over a wall.10 |
24 But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed11 limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, |
25 because of your father's God, who helps you, because of the Almighty,12 who blesses you with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breast and womb. |
32 The field and the cave in it were bought from the Hittites.15 " |
9 Chariots and horsemen1 also went up with him. It was a very large company. |
11 When the Canaanites who lived there saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, "The Egyptians are holding a solemn ceremony of mourning." That is why that place near the Jordan is called Abel Mizraim.2 |
23 and saw the third generation of Ephraim's children. Also the children of Makir son of Manasseh were placed at birth on Joseph's knees.3 |
