King James Version (en)

Matthew, Chapter 21,  verses 12-13

12 driveth the buyers and sellers out of the temple
12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

NOTES

Into almost every line of this story the evangelist places a parallel with biblical prophecies, and some of them are quoted directly in the text. But almost every quotation is interpreted and understood here in a new way...

The image of Jesus overturning the tables of the money changers, those ancient exchange booths, and the benches of the sellers of doves, the Zion equivalent of a candle kiosk, is so unfamiliar...

The people greet Jesus with joyful cries: "Salvation to the Son of David!" Many of us came to faith with the same joy...
